I think I am Talat's greatest fan. Talat was my friend in 1952.
I was a Police Sub-Inspector working at Bandra Police Station.
Talat used to come to the PS once a week to meet Inspector
Adkar. Talat had bought his first car and we used to take a ride
in the car. Possibly, it was a Morris. Although, I lost touch
with him, he was always with me because I listen to his velvet
voice every day of my life. I am his greatest fan ever. Khalid
Saheb, I want to meet you and hold you in my arms. Because,
Talat also held you in his arms as a baby!

Ever since I heard Talatji's song "Chal Diya Karvaan, Loont Gaye Hum
Yaha" (in the year 1967-68) when I was in my College years, I have
been a fan of Talat Mahmood. That time, I did not understand the
kind of magic he had in his throat. I started collecting lyrics of
all his songs and try to sing them. After I moved to USA in 1981, I
had a chance to see him sing live, but unfortunately, I was far away
from Houston, Texas where his concert was to be held, and I could
not make it. I still regret today. I have lot of collection of his
old, new and non-filmi songs/Gazals today and I still enjoy them
over any other singer of any generation.I accidently found this site
today, and I am so glad to see and learn more about his life today.

Dear Khalid Bhai, the legends never come back but they leave
their memories. Singer like Talat Mahmood are born once in a
million years and they are not replaceable. Our whole family is
great fan of Talat Saheb. I had always wished that I would get

Talat saab has that vocal sophistication that no one else in Hindi
Film Cinema ever has. Coupled with it he has the rare sonorousness
and vocal beauty that makes him unique, only one of a kind. It is
disheartening that such a huge talent got such limited success in
the '70s, '80s and the '90s. It is a sad state of affairs that the
worlds best ghazal singer remained less heard than ordinary talents
like Jagjit Singh, Pankaj Udhas and Anup Jalota during the ghazal wave. Even the
great Mehdi Hassan, who owes much of his singing skills to Talat
does not come close in terms of sonority and effortless singing.

As a young girl, i recall being totally enchanted by Talat sahib's
rendition of "jalte hai jiske liye" while watching the movie
"sujatha"-being in my pre-teens, i could not appreciate the pathos
expressed in the song but the voice, oh the voice was so beautiful
that i fell in love with it! The song kept going round in my head for
days after and then as with everything else, faded out of my
memory. Now, on the wrong side of forty, i was re-introduced to Talat
sahib's music by a wonderful friend from the past and i am now an
addict to Talat sahib's songs...his voice has the ablity to
transport me to a wonderful time when life was gentle and love was
considerate...i'm only sad that i missed listening to Talat sahib
all these years in between...but i shall try to make up for that
loss..Talat sahib's songs are my constant companions now..i do envy
my friend who was able to see Talat sahib on his trip to tellicherry
all those years ago...Thanks to you, i am able to learn about your
legendary Father..Guess he must be enchanting those, who like him, have
left this plane for a higher existence....look down on us and see

Dear Khalid Bhai, What a wonderful site you have prepared on you
great father Talat Saab who had the most divine voice! Now I am 55.
I had remained in the audience when Talat Saab had come to Cochin
(Mattancherry HEHMMH School).At first he started with "Seene me
sulagthe hai armaan". Then it started raining. Talat Saab
immediately sang Aaha Rhimjhim ke ye paare pyaare".The entire
audience remained in their seats though it rained well. The concert
went with TalatSaab's magical touches. I ran in the crowd and
touched his hand. He felt Godsent He came twice thereafter. In
seventeens. Second time I went and spoke. How great and humble he
was.He stood to shook my hand. Third time I made an interview. I had
written articles in Malayalam for three ocassion, including the one
I had done after his sad demise. In Cochin, there is one Hussan
Shah, who is in his 60s now.He had a replica of Talat saab's voice.
Unfortunately now he is sick. The people of Cochin found solace in
hearing him for Talat Saab's voice.I have now words how to comment
on this great artist on the earth who is still with us and will be
there for centuries with his heavenly voice. Khalid Bhai, every
night I use to hear Talat Saab for a good sleep. With high regards,

This was a great surprise. I was searching for the lyrics of
Talatji's songs and I chanced upon this site. Great work!! It was so
soothing to the eyes to see Talatji and the other stars of golden

Being a crazy fan I check this site regularly. On 2nd November,2005
I wrote a message to you. Today I found in 'Listen to Audio' page
that you have uploaded the songs in other regional languages
alongwith Bengali songs. But you did not upload two songs in older
version. One is "Duti paakhi duti teere" and the other is "Ghumero
chhaya chandero chokhe". It is really painful to me. Because I think
that most of the fans already heard the newer version. But the older
version is very very rare. At least to me. I have been searching
those songs for a long days. I hoped that you will quench my thirst.
But I am disappointed. Also I want to hear the bengali film songs
sung by the legend singer (Obviously the original soundtrack). I
shall be very grateful to you if you upload this songs immediately.

what a great and handsome singer talat saab was. its a pitty i ve
have never see him in real. nightingale asha bhosle has been quite a
few times in holland and when i ask her about talat saab she was
lost in memories and had tears in her eyes. she praised him. she
said only talat saab and melody queen lata mangeshkar has a silken
voice. there is no other singer who can sing so lovely like them.
she said she have great respect for him and was very happy to work
with him. khalid what a wonderfull and interesting page you have. my
god all the pictures of talat saab. india never had any other
handsome singer like him. and to believe in an era when man din t
use make up.. he was a natural beauty to say so. melody queen lata
mangeshkar the nightingale on the higesht branche has sang many

Khalid Saheb, A few moments back I have uploaded an attachment which
is self explanatory. I have gone through the list of ghazals: Listen
to Audio. I do not find a ghazal that was broadcast nearly 40 years
ago by the A.I.R. I had spoken to the late Talat Saheb then,
enquiring about its availibilty. Expressing his regrets he had
informed that since that was the private property of the A.I.R. it
was not available to the public. Almost 3 decades later the the same
ghazal was telecast by the Door Darshan but to my disappointment it
was not Talat Saheb; it was a female singer whose rendering I am
sorry to state was insipid. The wordings are: "Teri bewafaai kaa
shukriya, Mujhe tune jeena sikha diya. Tere gham me chen saa mil
gaya, Tere dard ne jo mazaa diya. I had the good fortune to note
down the entire piece in Urdu. If interested you may e mail me on:

singers, I have come back to Talat Mahmood once again. Two of his

of his voice. But believe me, very religeously for the last about

I never knew so much about talat as I learned form this site. Good
work indeed. By the way, I am no fan of music, but I have always loved to
hear Talat Mahmood's melodious songs...that have the power to
tranposrt me into the world of romance. I would have liked to learn
more about Talat's past life when he was not a super
star...(although a star is always a star...often hidden from the

Talking of a gentleman like Talat Saab one can come across numerous
instances. I recall an incidence when he was singing for a packed
standing room audience at Ashoka Hotel, New Delhi. He had a sore
throat and he felt he was not at his best, kept apologising for that
but continued. This was in the winters in early eighties. This was
one concert of his that I heard standing as I was late and the hall
was packed to capacity. The more he apologised the more the crowd wanted their requests. He continued in
spite of the sore throat and no one was really bothered that Talat
saab needed a rest. They loved him and he was responding to their
love. The biggest praise for the two concerts came from the press on
the following days. They admired the selection and dedication with
which he went beyond the stipulated time for his fans. What mattered
was that he performed and the fans got to hear him. That's what I
call being a saintly gentleman who willingly accepts pain for the
pleasure of others.

On 13th july 1987 when Talat Mahmood was to be given lions club award
along with Anil Biswas & Ashok Kumar, I alongwith my friends visited him
at Maurya Sheraton Hotel New Delhi. On our request, he rendered few lines of "mere khyalon mein aake gale laga ja mujhe" which every
one present there enjoyed the session. We cherish that memory
still. Talat sahab was a great person, great singer. i fail to
understand as to why he was not chosen for sensuous songs, like a few
years before. He used to sing from his heart, not from his
lungs. Khalid ji kya aap koi rare cd of his sensuous songs, rare
duets with lata &asha &madhubala jhaveri etc. release karwa rahe
hain? Pl.do , it is a long time that his cd or cassets was

I got a chance to meet this great singer in one of his concerts at
Pragati Maidan, Delhi in late 80s. At that time i was 12-13. i was
thrilled to hear the melodious voice of Talat Saab. I was also
honoured with an autograph of this greatest singer ever which i am

His tune was different from that of other contemporary singers. With
his Gazal Style tune which he brought into all the Hindi songs he
